InfraWorks/3D Modeling Narrative

CaliChi Design Group utilizes InfraWorks/Civil 3D Modeling for early-stage design, animated visualizations and planning.

On average, Civil Engineers ask the architect for a 2-D CAD file, and then complete the site civil and utility design, based upon a snapshot of the architectural model.

In contrast, CaliChi will conduct an interactive discussion with case examples of streamlining that process in a Civil 3D model, completing the generation of 3-D surfaces and pipe networks, and then export that information to Infraworks and Navisworks model. This information is then provided to the architect. This way, the team civil engineer actually participates in BIM—rather than just talking about it—enhancing both cost and schedule efficiency.

In addition, 3D simulations created via InfraWorks serve as excellent sales tools for emerging properties when flat elevations fall short in communicating value.

Please note that InfraWorks is not intended to create high-end graphics. The renderings and animations are for screens, rather than hi-res printing.

SAMPLE 1 — Davis Live

Infraworks allows us to quickly integrate a Revit or AutoCAD model with surrounding building and site context and topography of the sites actual location. We can then enhance the existing surroundings with proposed vegetation and adjust the surrounding buildings and roads for realism.
For Davis Live, the client wanted to present a realistic visualization of the proposed building and site within the surrounding neighborhood to help the City Planning Commission in realizing that the proposed building height and masking did not overwhelm the surrounding neighborhood.

SAMPLE 2 — Cascadia Lofts

Infraworks allows us to quickly integrate a Revit or AutoCAD model with surrounding building and site context and topography of the sites actual location. We can then enhance the existing surroundings with proposed vegetation and adjust the surrounding buildings and roads for realism. Infraworks can support model areas of up to 200 square kilometers to provide context and stunning visuals for potential projects.
For Cascadia Lofts, the client wanted to both provide context for the project making and materials with the surrounding neighborhood and to provide the actual views from each balcony of the Columbia River Gorge, the Hood River event site, and the Bridge.
