CaliChi will perform an assessment of the site to determine the existing utilities such as gas, electricity, and telecommunication to determine what new utilities will be and determine the challenges that will affect the distribution of these utilities to the site.

CaliChi will research the utilities local to the project and obtain any required Will Serve Letters from the service providers.

The CaliChi team is highly experienced in rules and requirements for service line extensions that are necessary to provide utility service when new residential, commercial, or industrial facilities and will work as the Client’s representative l to develop the most cost-effective design.

Rule 20 provides three levels, A, B, and C, of progressively diminishing ratepayer funding for the underground conversion of power lines.  CaliChi assists our Clients in working with the local utility to determine if the conversion project qualifies for any of the Rule 20 A, B, C and will then work as the Client’s representative I to develop the most cost-effective design.

Analyzing existing utility infrastructure and cost-saving recommendations to resolve design conflicts with the planned development.

CaliChi will prepare the Joint Trench Intent and submit to potential Utility Service Providers along with the proposed electric trench route on a site plan that identifies curbs/gutters and other known facilities. The providers will then indicate whether they intend to be a joint trench participant and provide information regarding the number of conduits or pieces of equipment, location, size of conduit, and technical specifications. CaliChi will then use this information to generate the Composite Construction Drawings.

CaliChi Design will work with each of the Utility Service Providers to resolve any issues or conflicts and combine all joint trench participants’ drawings into one combined and detailed Composite Drawing. CaliChi will then submit the Composite Drawing to each of the providers for formal approval.

Utility coordination prior to the start of construction can prevent delays, additional costs, need for design changes, and surprise discoveries due to a variety of conflicts or issues that may arise between existing infrastructure and planned changes or regulations. CaliChi’s team schedules and manages the entire process for our Clients.

CaliChi’s team of engineers work in partnership with the Architect, Civil, and MEP consultants to seamlessly integrate the dry utilities with the remaining disciplines resulting in a comprehensive and detailed set of Construction Drawings reducing conflicts and costly delays during construction.
