Fusselman Hall is a building on the Kentfield Campus of the College of Marin in Kentfield, California. The building underwent a modernization program centered on seismic retrofit and building envelope improvements, and Calichi provided civil engineering services in support of that work. Our scope covered the civil baseline for the project: topographic site survey, grading and drainage design, utility documentation from existing field surveys, stormwater C.3 calculations, and a stormwater management plan.
Seismic retrofits of existing campus buildings depend on accurate documentation of what is already built. Existing conditions rarely match old drawings precisely, and the retrofit solution the structural team develops depends on a reliable civil base to design against. The topographic survey and utility documentation we produced established that foundation. Stormwater C.3 compliance is a regulatory requirement for Bay Area campus improvements of this scale, and the stormwater plan addressed those requirements in parallel with the structural work.
