Brookdale Park in East Oakland has sports courts, open lawn, and a community recreation center. The City of Oakland commissioned a full redevelopment of the park and its Recreation Center and Discovery Center at 2535 High Street, replacing and rebuilding the recreation center, a new tot lot, resurfaced baseball, basketball, and tennis courts with new sports lighting, a dog park and run along Nevil Street, a community kitchen garden, a picnic area, and a new staff parking lot off High Street. CDG provided civil engineering for the project as a subconsultant to Dialog Design across the full design sequence from schematic design through construction documents.
Our civil scope covers site and paving plans, precise grading and drainage, stormwater C.3 calculations and a stormwater control plan, domestic water and sewer utility plans, a site fire protection plan with a hydraulic pressure and flow model, off-site signage and striping, and erosion and sediment control. The project replaces existing impervious surface within the park, which triggers C.3 treatment requirements under the Municipal Regional Stormwater Permit. Fitting the required treatment measures into a heavily programmed park without sacrificing any of the planned amenities required careful grading and drainage coordination with the landscape architect.
