Las Lomas High School is a comprehensive high school in Walnut Creek, California, operated by Acalanes Union High School District. Calichi served as the civil engineering subconsultant to LCA Architects on two phases of portable classroom installation at the campus: an initial phase in 2017 and a second phase in 2019.
Our civil scope covered construction documents and bidding assistance for site work supporting the portable buildings. Phase one also included a limited topographic survey of the site. Both phases required submittal to the California Division of the State Architect (DSA), which reviews and approves all public school construction in California for structural, accessibility, and life-safety compliance.
The DSA process requires civil documents to go through formal review and backcheck alongside architecture and structural engineering, with all disciplines coordinated under a single approval. We managed the civil package through each round of review, resolved backcheck comments, and supported construction administration through project closeout on both phases.
